Lamberton Scammell Grill Plate
A grill plate made by Lamberton Scammell between 1929 to 1954. The design was originally patented in 1926 for use in Berkeley-Carteret Hotel in Asbury Park, NJ The patent shows the hotel crest in the center position with 6 additional gernertic crests around the rim. The company later used the design for other hotels with their hotel crests. They also producted the design without a specific crests for general use. The mark on the back has been found in use as early as 1931 and was discontinued in 1954. Coyprighted information from the book "From Earth to Art: The History of the Lamberton Works" by Larry R. Paul, pages 133 and 412 plus background reading from the whole book.
The grill plate is in good condition with no chips, cracks, or dings. There is some fading of the design and a few knife scratches, but the plate finish is still shiny. The back side shows one spot of stain on one of the 3 pin marks from the firing kiln. For a plate that is 60 to 80 years old, it's still quite usable.
